I purchased a used Peugeot 207 1.4 (16 valve petrol) 5 door saloon in November 2010 with 24,500 miles on the clock. I am very pleased with the car and its petrol consumption however since having it I have noticed the following problem.
When driving on a level road, at a steady speed, with the accelerator only just keeping the car moving, the engine seems to 'hesitate' as if a spark plug is not firing or the fuel injection is not quite right. Doesn't seem to matter what gear is engaged. The moment you increase the acceleration, the problem disappears. Also if you go to the rear of the car, on tick over you can hear a distinct 'pop' every few seconds from the exhaust outlet. This doesn't worry me but I wondered if it was a symptom of the problem.
My Peugeot garage said it was due to a variable valve solenoid (or words to that effect) causing the engine to hunt. The have fitted a new one but it hasn't stopped the problem.
Any suggestions |
