Hi,

i've brought a 2005, silver 307 estate, 1.6 HDi, 110bhp, uk spec, 110000 miles.  Main dealer serviced to 96k service.
Since owning it (3 months), i've fitted a new turbo, new EGR valve, oil and filter changes.

The issue's i'm haveing with it now are as follows -

- some times after a 3+ mile trip from cold (74-78oC)  (normal running temp is 76oC), after switching off  the engine, the fan runs on for 3-5 mins,  But once  i take it for a long run, or leave it  idle'ing till the fan cuts out, then after that the fan dont run on after small trips.

-  Fault codes keep coming up in my  Autel 509 Scanner, even after clearing, (in pending then into stored once Mil turned on)
P1351, idm input circuit malfunction,
P1457, unable to pull in tank,
P2408, fuel cap sensor / switch circuit.  (cap seems to have magnets still)

- Seems to be running poor  MPG. At about 40mpg.

I'm after for some advice on what to do next

Hi

sound like it wants looking at by a specialist or dealer ,P2408 suggests that the sensor / wiring for the fuel cap present is faulty and this is an important part of the regeneration side of the vehicle , my guess is new sensor ( £20.00) or wiring fault on exsisting one.

this s needs sorting asap as at the moment it will be not registering removal of the fuel cap!!

P1457 i would suggest is refferring to the additive tank pump which if so agin wants looking at!

as for cooling fans I think there is a download at the dealer to help the over run issue

specialist time me thinks all this could clog up your DPF quicker than needs be

Cheers,

I'll be trying to trace the fuel cap sensor fault first,   Is there a place i can check the sensor output at the cap end and at a ECU pin?

I am a welder by trade,  but do have alot of dealing with mechanical engineering, either atmy previous job as a plate fitter / welder,
but I've spent the last 10 years playing, rebuilding and tuning my cars and bikes for sprints and  track, But my fort 'A'  is older Fords (cosworths and RS turbo's, and turbo carb conversions).  And Yamaha's R6 + R1 motorbikes.

I posted on here, to see if anyone had seen similar faults, and know of common reasons, because some times fault codes can lead you down the wrong way.

yes u can disconect the plug for the fuel cap, its located on the bottom of the fuel filler neck before it goes into the tank.  if u check the resistance over the 2 pins with the cap on and the cap off.  i think its around 16 ohms with cap on and a very high resistance with cap off, been awhile since i done one so not to sure wot the readings are

Cheers,

I'll be looking at the car tomorrow, in the hope to trace the issue's.

Does anyone else know about the other 2 codes?  P1351 and P1457?

Cheers,

The fuel cap sensor was broke (reading 18 ohms cap on or off), so that was replaced for a New Pug part @ £28,  now reads  13.3 ohms (200 ohm setting on multi meter)  cap on , 149.5ohms (200k ohms setting) with cap off.
Thats has sorted the P2408 fault.
But i had a look under the passengers seats front and rear, and no controll box,  So is it under the carpets, or under the car built in with the additive tank?

Now the faults left are,  P1351 and P1457,  and are not coming up all the time, and the Mil has come on 2 times in 100 miles.

- About the  P1351 fault,
What relay is the glow plugs one, and i take it will be with the other relays under the bonnet?

-  And the P1457 fault,
Is it the additive tank, as mentioned above by Crow earlier on, So the tank under passenger rear seat under the car?
What sensor is reading this fault? (a Map sensor?)
Is there a recommended amount of vacum i can measure at the Vacum pump, and at the Tank sensor?
And is it only vacum related?, as i have checked the vacum hoses, and seem leak free.

Sorry for all the questions, but  i think after doing Goggle searches, i hope this post will help alot more people, as i'll update any tests i do, with help of everyone else who posts.

hi,,,
1351 is normally due to glow plug failure, not the glow plug relay.
checks all your glow plugs are working.
what control unit you meaning???glow plug or addgo ecu??

also no you have sorted the cap, what faults with the car are you left with???
what year is this car?

Hi,

i've edited the last post, to read more clearly.

The car is a 2005, UK spec.

Now the fuel cap sensor is sorted, the faults left are the P1351 and P1457.

I couldn't find  the fuel additive control module, unless its built into the additive tank under the car, but by then i had sorted the fault with a new sensor, so didn't really search for it.

Glow plugs,

i've read that they are not used till about -15oC, (like some Merc vitto vans),  but then read they are used in the regen cycle.
Other than waiting for a regen or -15oC temps, is there a way i can test the glow plug relay / wireing feed.

On the vacum side of things,

there is a block box behind the engine where a vacum goes too,  whats this?
Then a hose goes from that to a brown sensor, which has 3 hoses and a electric plug, whats this ?
