I have a problem were the car will jump and clunk when i start to go up a hill it drops gear and then the problem occours?

just an update. the car is in for a new gearbox. Will let you know if it solves the problem when i get it back.

just an update, the box was stripped down and rebuilt, rather than going for a new box, put back into the car and it seemed to have fixed the problem. I have been driving it for a while now but today it happened again. It definately isnt doing it as often or as easily as before but the problem is still there. Dont know what to do now.

ok gearbox rebuilt and replaced, suspension ball joints replaced, tracking and camber adjustments done and hey presto problem is gone. Peugeot told me it was to do with the car sensing slightly different reistance on each of the wheels, causing the ECU to not want to spin the wheels. the whole job was expensive (Â£1500) but all seems to be solved.

Hi there, I just bought a 407 2.7 HDI SE Coupe and I am experiencing the same problems. Do you think that it is necessary to change the gearbox or the problem can be solved by replacing the suspension ball joints, tracking and camber adjustments? I am asking this because you said that you have changed the gearbox alone first and the problem was still there. Please let me know. Thank you

I have the same problem on my 2006 saloon. Peugeot have done a diagnosis and state that the downloads are all Ok (whatever that means), and therefore their technician is recommending a new gbox at a cost of Â£5000!! As my extended warranty has a limit of Â£2000 on any single problem, I would have to fund the remaing Â£3K! This is at odds with what I have read on relevant blog sites from other owners who have the same/similar problem, and refer to the replacement of valve blocks as a cot just below or around the Â£2K mark. What to do now as my warranty runs out in less than a month?

You cannot change the fluid on these boxes, theyre sealed. How the dealer managed to check the fluid level is beyond me too, there is no way of doing that.

you can get the actuator block refurbed for circa Â£600.

As for going back to a quality car, well the gearbox is Japanese and is well used, you've just got a bad one. My pals S430 merc with 70,000 miles on it just blew its box, quaity eh!
