I have a confusing problem with my indicator.  When indicating right, the indicator on the dash flashes very quickly but the actual bulb at the front of the car doesn't flash at all. I swapped the left indicator bulb with the right one, just to prove that the bulbs hadn't blown, and both worked OK and the problem even went away.   A day or so later however the problem has reappeared!!!  Both bulbs appear OK but when I indicate right I get this quick flashing. Confused
Any ideas on what it could be and how to fix?

That sounds an odd one.

I guess it is flashing quickly as there isnt the correct current load on the device (so a bit like a blown bulb).

Maybe the fuse to the lighting on that side?

Hey,

Your right in this assumption, due to their being one less bulb in the electric circuit the remaining 2 flash faster and probably slightly brighter to.

I had a simialr problem with my own 307 in that on a few occasions the indicators on one side would flash faster, it transpired I did have a bulb out or what appeared to be a bad bulb anyway.
On inspection the indicator bulbs sit in an adaptor which twist & lock into the light unit, this adaptor has connectors connecting the bulb to the circuit board on the lights to transfer power. Now what I found was that the contacts in this holder which touched the bulb had deteriorated meaning that the connection between bulb and holder was intermittent.
Ove time the metal had worn slightly meaning there could be a connection issue, intermittant touching of contacts can cause small sparks and over time this wears the connection point and I think this was my problem.

In the end I fiddled with the holder, pulling the connection in towards the bulb more which solved my problem. You may find a similar problem with you car, as if you touch it the problem goes away but hit a bump and the bulb moves slightly and the connection is lost and the indicator dont work.

You may find as you swapped them over you tweeked the bulbs position in the holder slightly and this fixed the conenction issue, which then worked ok until you drove the car a bit further and a bump shifted the position slightly.

If you dont fancy messing with the indicator bulb holder I am sure another is cheap enough to buy or source from a scrap yard.

Hi ian.

Thanks for the info - I think the only thing I would add to what you say is that with a meter you could measure the voltage at the connector to the holder itself to confirm this.

Thanks again Ian.

Hey,

Ah no worries, glad to offer some other options to think about.

Yeah your right, you could check to make sure there is voltage at the light itself using a multi meter. Having said that I think there is as Hotty8 switched the bulbs over and they both worked.
It could also just be oxidisation on the contacts, basically them just furring up and removing and refitting them will renew the contact.

Hopefully they will chime back in and let us know.

I think the determination of the bulbs working is that Hotty8 tried them both in the other side of the vehicle so not confirming power to the non working side - at least thats how I read it.

Hello Mate,

Ah I see where your coming from.
I just re-read the post, this line particularly :

"I swapped the left indicator bulb with the right one, just to prove that the bulbs hadn't blown, and both worked OK and the problem even went away. "

It seems after messing around with the bulbs/holders the problem disappeared completely indicating (pun  Very Happy ) that there is power to the indicator on the right side it just couldn't get to the bulb.

I'm surprised they havn't been back yet to check on whats been mentioned and let us know how they got on.

Just to be clear - the left hand bulb is now installed on the right side and I still get this intermittent problem. The right hand bulb, is now on the left side and working fine.  When I get the quick flashing on the dashboard, the actual indicator does not work (only the rear and side indicators flash). However, if I remove the bulb and replace it, I generally fix the problem, albeit for only a short time. So both bulbs are fine and the problem is only specific to the right front side of the vehicle.
Apologies for being unclear..

Sounds like what Coolice was talking about.

If you can follow what I suggested that may help to find the problem.
