Hi All, i have a 2004 2.2 hdi with a duff turbo (blown oil seal ran on oil for about 5 seconds), my question is can the turbo be removed from under the car, i have had a good look at it today (Sunday) and it looks like if i remove the o/s/f drive shaft it may give me enough room to remove it.
Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of doing this, Thanks in advance, Graham.

To answer my own question and possibly help anyone unfortunate enough to be in the same situation, yes if you remove the o/s/f driveshaft it doese indeed give you enough room to get at and remove the turbo, although i havn't actually removed it yet just the 4 nuts holding it onto the manifold to go, i have been spraying these with penetrating oil for a couple of days so i thought that best to be prudent and give them one last soak and hope that they ondo without any problems.

Hi Davey, i think that it should be possible to do a Turbo removal and refit comfortably in a day, it took me 4days problems with removing the drive shaft (don't undo the bracket) then problems with the turbo to manifold nuts 2 rounded so ended up removing the exhaust manifold with it, at least that gave me plenty room to do the EGR valve. But i also had to remove the intercooler plus pipes to clean all the oil out, also it does not help that i did it all on my back with the car raised at the front on axle stands (what i wouldn't give for a pit  Laughing .

                                             Thanks, Graham.

Hi Darren,  i think the post above yours answers your question, but what i would do if i had to do another is to take the exhaust manifold off and leave the turbo connected to it and remove it and refit it on the bench and then put it back in one lump. otherwise 2 of the turbo to manifold nuts are an absolute b**tard to remove or replace
You can make enough room to get it out by removing the engine / driveshaft mounting and levering the engine forward from the bottom but its tight.
                           H.T.H. Good luck Graham.
