My 207 1.4petrol 16v Sports 56plate 40k miles on clock, suddently cut off in front of the traffic light.
Got recoverd and the guy told me it would be a Timing Belt problem and what it shouldn't be in this age and mileage.
My individual garage checked and found the belt is all shredded. And he called to the local peugeot dealer and ask if they'll investigate for me.
However, when i brought my car there and they asked me GBP180 up front before they can strip down and check.

I found there are some similar issues here.
What i can see is i might have to pay a big bill to repair, either for just the belt, valve or the engine.

Can anyone who get the thing sorted out successfully from peugeot tell me what I can do now.
Im refusing to pay the GBP180 for the strip down and let them tell me nothing they can do after investiagtion.

Can anyone help??? Please.

just a little update...

Finally, i rejected to pay GBP180 for the investigation from my local Peugeot dealer before they started their work.
I just didn't feel right because when i stepped into their counter, they were not going to help me but all about was money.
They didn't even have a look of my car and just ask me to give them payment authorisation because they have to stripped down my car to check.
I just feel why i have to pay for the investigation. The timming belt wasn't supposed to be failed in this age and mileage.
And I've read some posts who have similar situation to me, and what they said is Peugeot will deny any of their fault and just give other excuses to avoid fixing the car.
So, I decided to push my car back to the individual garage to fixed it. I think i could at least save myself GBP180.

Now my car got fixed and running quite ok.
Individual garage found out my car's water pump failed and broke the timming belt and the engine head, cylinder head bolt damaged as well.
The bill end up GBP 739.99

Timing belt kit               151.46
Water pump                  97.37
head set                        64.91
head repair                    259.66
cylinder head bolt set    43.27

Bill has paid, Car been fixed. Now I just don't understand why the water pump can fail so easily?
is it the problem of the car itself or what?
obviously im not the only victim of the water pump fail and caused such big problem.

Anyway, I asked the individual garage to write me a damage report and I'm going to complain to Peugeot.
I'm not sure they'll responsible for anything but I told myself it's better to try. And at least let them know there might be a problem of the water pump design.

Sorry for such long post.
Hope it may help anyone.
And I wish anyone who got the same problem as me, please speak out and don't let other drivers become another victim.

My cambelt failed today but not sure why yet.  Plan on contacting local dealer in the morning.  It's also an 07 reg with only 34k on the clock.

I have just had a similar situation happen.  I have a 207cc 57 plate which has done around 48,000 miles.  I was advised it was the timing belt and that it would cost £450.00 including vat to fix.  I then had a phone call the following day which was my birthday to be told that in fact is was worse and would need a new engine or a rebuild at a whopping cost of £3000.00.  Told them not to bother as didnt have that sort of money.

Contacted Peugeot customer services, advised that it was a timing chain and not a timing belt, still cant get to the bottom of this.  The Peugeot garage say that the initial cost was to strip the engine to find the fault.  The AA man that came out when the vehicle broke down did a diagnostic check at 1am and found the fault without stripping anything  in the engine.  I think this is a fault that Peugeot are aware of.  Dont know what I am going to do any suggestions??  Thank you

You'd better contact Peugeot customer services, advised that it was a timing chain and not a timing belt. I think they will give you a satisfied solution! Good luck!
