From your description of the problem, there doesn't seem to be too much wrong with your auto box. Perhaps, you have a switch/wiring fault in the gear selector area. When the gear selector is in 'P' it has a mechanical interlock which is released by pressing the brake pedal and it may be you have a fault in this area. Your best bet is to get it connected to Planet 2000 and read the fault. There must be someone in the London area with Planet 2000, unfortunately, I'm located in Scotland.

Just an afterthought, I assume you have checked the box goes up and down through the gears OK using the manual change facility.

Also, it's possible for an auto box error to be flagged due to another underlying fault. I had an auto box warning once following an ABS/ESP warning. After replacing a faulty ABS sensor and clearing all ABS/ESP/Auto box errors with Planet 2000 the gearbox warning never reappeared.

Hi thanks for the reply I am hoping it is only a sensor or wire as if it's the box I can not get it fixed with just paying for it so am stuffed if it is so will try & get the code read can I get any garage to read the code or has it got to be Peugeot planet.
The gears all change ok but the only thing  is  I do all my driving around town & it's like the car does not get to 4th but does if I change it up is this how this box works around town or is there a problem there & smoth would you say this box is should you feal the changes sorry about all the Qs but just trying to get a feal for the box as its my first auto Peugeot.
Thanks again all the best Martin

If you are driving in 30/40 mph zones your car is unlikely to change up to 4th gear. Even in 50 mph areas it will sometimes remain in 3rd when you are going uphill. To improve mpg, I often manually select 4th gear when my speed is over 40 mph but traffic conditions won't let me go much faster. In my experience, most automatic cars don't go into top gear until they are approaching 50 mph.

I suspect there is nothing much wrong with your actual auto gearbox and that you have an electrical 'gremlin' somewhere in the system. Either a Peugeot or Citroen dealer will have the equipment to read your diagnostics, although I am surprised there is nobody on this forum in your area with Peugeot Planet 2000.

If you already have a laptop PC, all you need is the interface cable and software and you could do the job yourself. This is the sort of thing you need:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexia-3-LEXIA3-V47-PP2000-V24-Citroen-Peugeot-Diagnostic-Interface-30Pin-Cable-/170892195109?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item27c9f7f525

A dealer will charge around £50 to read your diagnostics so if you buy one of these and use it twice, you will be in profit!
