Hey guys and girls. One from the colony here and hoping you guys can lend a hand! Earlier today I had a 306 Cab delivered to me. Paid very little for it but there is a reason for that... it doesn't start. Anyway, as a car audio and security specialist I figured I'd have a pretty good shot at getting this puppy started. I'm making progress and it's late and need to turn in for the night, but figured I'd post my work in the hope that someone can shed some light on what I have.
Firstly... the car
1999 306 Cabriolet 2.0 5spd manual
It has an infrared key.
Secondly... the back story
I found the car on eBay for $800 (thats pretty cheap for a Peugeot here) with the description stating that he had changed the clutch and now the car won't start, lost interest and purchased a 307. The car has sat in a warehouse for the last 8 months not moving.
What I checked, assumed, tested and not tested. I've built up a list of things to check from searching the web.
- I can confirm the starting and system is OK. The engine cranks just fine
- The relay pack next to the fuel cut off switch appears to be functioning normally. It consists of two relays, one fires repeatedly during cranking (appears to trigger fuel pump) the other turns on with ignition. Does anyone know the correct function of this relay pack?
- Fuel appears to be ok but on the same hand, I cannot hear it prime. Perhaps the lines are already pressurized? Will attempt to test further tomorrow
- CAS shows no signs of damage but I did find a second CAS in the vehicle. I was going to swap them over and test but what would be fantastic is if someone could tell me how to test for the correct resistance on the CAS? Anyone know what the impedance should be?
- My keyless entry is functioning just fine and it's an Infrared system. I believe that this is like most cars, the keyless entry and immobilizer transponder are two totally different circuits? So the fact that my keyless entry is working doesn't mean the immobilizer couldn't be at fault?
- I'm presuming there is no way to temporarily bypass the immobilizer is there? and if there was... no one would tell me.
- Fuel cut inertia switch. I'm not sure if this is a NC or NO switch. So I have disconnected it and tried both disconnected and also shorting out the two pins. No change.
- The ground points under the battery box are solid. Good ground at battery, gearbox and chassis. But there were some wires near the top of the gearbox where the main earth strap goes. There is a green and yellow pair of wires sharing an O ring and a slightly smaller gauge yellow (?) wire with an O ring. I have no clue where these are supposed to go.... so I earthed them. Thoughts?
- As I sat down to write this... I realized I forgot the number one rule, I haven't checked my 30 fuse panel.
What are the possible reasons for not having spark?
What are the possible reasons for not having fuel?
What are the possible reasons for the immobilizer not reading the key transponder? |
