I have been searching trying to find the answer to my question but as of yet I have failed to find it.

I have just brought a 2003 Peugeot 307 S HDI. When I brought the car I bought it knowing that there is a issue/fault with the ABS system.

The previous owner stated that he had replaced the rear ABS sensors, and everything was fine for a short period of time, then the ABS fault returned.

I know that the 307 has issues with the rear ABS backing plate rusting up, causing the sensor air gap to becoming too wide.

I have stripped down both rear brakes, and the backing plate was indeed very rusted, I have removed all the rust, and made sure that the sensors are <2mm of air gap.

I have driven the car for approx 1 mile after cleaning and reseating the sensors but the fault has not cleared.

Looking on the internet it seems that there is a lot of confusion regarding if the ABS needs resetting via a scantool/diagnostics, or if the system will reset it's self.

Also from what I have been reading it seems that is also confusion regarding if the sensors are passive or active type.

From what I have been able to find out it seems more likely that the sensors are the active (hall-affect) type, but the sensors only have 2 pin connectors, all hall-affect sensors I have seen and worked with require 3pins, being power, ground, and signal out.

Can anyone please confirm if my 2003 Peugeot 307 S HSI is using passive or active type sensors.

How can I test each of the sensors on or off the car without access to PP2000, or a scantool/diagnostics?

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

I thought the gap should be 1 to 1.5 mm...maybe your 2mm is too far
