It must be distorted alloy wheel/s.
Couple months ago, I was driving on higway and on 150km/h my front left tire blew. Went to nearby Peugeot dealer and got 2 new tires.
Went back to highway and on 130km/h (70+mph) I had this vibration that will go and come back. Sometimes neglable but sometimes would shake so bad. I had spent lot of money on Peugot rep's and other balancing repairs but it would not go away.
It took one smart ass mechanic to figure it out that is distorted alloy wheel. Chep repair.
No more vibrations...................... |

| Just an update on my wheel vibration problem at 70 which may help others. I had my tyres (all Michelin) balanced 3 times at National Tyre and at a Peugeot dealer but not cured. Went to The Wheel Restorer at Wrexham (thewheelrestorer.co.uk) thinking it must be distorted alloys. They did a check and carefully balanced all 4 wheels. No distortion but wheels were all out of balance and one tyre non-circular. Changed this tyre and now no vibration. If you have vibration problems I'd recommend going to a professional wheel place like the onoe I used. |

Last year I renewed both front tyres at Kwik Fit.
Prior to the renewal there was no vibration at all.
New tyres on and vibrating at 75 - 80 mph.
Re-balanced twice more and still the same.
Replaced tyres and still the same.
I contacted Pirelli who advised:
Ask Kwik Fit when the wheel balancing machine was last calibrated?
They arranged to have machine calibrated and then re-balanced my wheels.
Guess what? Correct! No vibration and steering perfect... |

I've read lots of posts about steering vibration on 407 at speeds >70mph. Â Like most 407 owners have had new susp ball joints at <40k miles and new tyres but hasn't cured it. Â Balanced 3x but still there. Â Dealer says Michelin tyres could be problem and suggests Pirellis. Â I wondered if it could be distorted alloy wheels. Â Anyone out there had success with diagnosis and curing it ?? Â Yours in hope !!

Had similar problem on French Motorway so pulled into a tyre place they said there was nothing wrong with the alloy wheel and rebalanced it but pointed out that the locking key had one pin broken so could not be tightened to the max torque. On returning had it checked for wheel damage but was told its ok.Replaced the locking bolt and key so now no vibration at 70+. Nearly drove me mad having tracking rebalancing etc done several times.
The key was damaged using pressure gun in Birmingham while having the wheel balanced. |
