hi all, first time peugeot owner!
and im here with a problem, seen this same issue several times but not found a definitive answer?

car drives fine, temp gauge rises as you'd expect, then after a few miles temp gauge goes all the way over to the right and dash tells me to stop the car as the coolant temperature is too high.
pull over and open the bonnet, radiator is stone cold, top hose is slightly warm. fan works fine.
ive changed the thermostat, still overheats.

anyone actually fixed this problem?

Are you sure the replacement stat is good?

The rad could be blocked, if your cars getting on a bit it wouldnt be unheard of. If so simply flushing the system would fix it.

Also has the temp sender gone faulty, it may have gone more sensative, Im sure there is a way to check but I dont remember how.

Also try a system reset to to ensure its not a glitch.

Hope this helps
Simon

I had exact same problem on another car, threw me for weeks, turns out the new thermostat I changed first was a duff one!

Hi Everyone,

I too have a similar problem with my Peugeot 307 1.6 petrol 2005 automatic - hatch.

I would go on a drive on the highway, drive it between 100 and 120kmh and during that time the temp would stay on 90 degrees and go over slightly, then after about 200km I would get to a very slight incline (hill) where the temp would go all the way into the red - my dash would say stop and I would have to stop for a period of 15 to 20 minutes in order for the temp to go down.

When I check under the bonnet, the engine is hot, radiator is hot - there is pressure build up by the coolant - the radiator fan is running.

I took it to a mechanic (someone I trust), they hooked it up to the computer and nothing was faulty. They even tested the car up a steep hill in the city and the radiator fan kicked into 2nd gear when it should do so.

During the winter, the car doesn't overheat, during a mild winter the car would overheat only on longer hills and after the 200km drive. In the summer the car would overheat when I would drive it at 120kmh - I then have to drive it at 100kmh or 3000 rpm in order to stop the temp from climbing.

Its 2023 and the car is 2005 - yes I am aware it is an old car. My question is where to start - when the mechanic has shown me the report and tested the car.

Thank you in advance for any advice.
