Hi All, Robert from South Africa here and this is my first post here and I have an interesting one that i thought i would get your feedback on.
I have a 2006 407 HDI that developed brake problems in 2008. There were a number of other problems as well all dismissed by Peugeot SA but I was shocked this week to find not one but two recall campaigns that covered the exact same issues that I had and were applicable to 307, 407, 607, 807 and Expert III's.
In 2008 there was this recall http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=EF7FBC7D7F2B52BC802573DE002D793F&freeText=Blank&tx= which facilitated the replacement of part number 459953 part of assembly DF4510A fitted to all the above vehicles including my 407 which was built during 2006. This was fitted to my vehicle during a service without my knowledge till this week and it was only after this part was fitted that I started having brake problems.
Now here is where it gets interesting...
In 2010 there was another recall for the same part http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand.asp?uniqueID=A675E86EC68EBB4D802577F900419A4F&freeText=Blank&tx=0.3521952 which applied to all the above vehicle models built from 15/12/2006 to 31/03/2009 estimated at being 24220 vehicles but the system excluded all vehicles covered by the 2008 recall because they had already been subject to a recall in 2008 where a new part was fitted.
So here is the kicker, the recall part swapped out in 2008, part number 569953, falls within the range of the potentially faulty parts covered by the 2010 recall. Peugeot seems to have missed this because if the second recall covers 2006 to 2009 then any part fitted in 2008 (the same part as those in the December 2006 to March 2009 vehicles, will form part of the second recall.
I have checked the VIN number of a number of vehicles listed in the 2010 recall and the part that was affected is the same part that was in my 407 and it was swapped out wit the same part number in 2008.
It seems that the actual number of vehicles (across the models) affected by the 2010 recall should have been 44087 but 19867 cars were missed in the second recall when it's seems they should have also been re-recalled or am I missing something?
I tried taking this up with Peugeot SA but there is a good reason its rated one of the worst brands in South Africa but hopefully someone here can shed some light on this. |
