I Have a 2001 307 2Ltr HDI, My wife drove it to the supermarket and when she returned it failed to start. She called the RAC who manged to start the car using easy start. They suggested we have put on a diagnostics machine to find the problem. My wife then drove the car to the peugeot dealer around the corner and had it put on their machine. They diagnosed the problem as the high pressure fuel pump being deffective and in need of replacing (at great cost). They reluctlently gave us a copy of the dianostics report which had the following fault codes P0336, P0272, P0181, P0263, P0266 & P1199. I then drove the car the 10 or so miles home with out any problems, which makes me think it's not the fuel pump as surely it wouldn't run? The following day and ever since the car has failed to start. we've tried changing the fuel filter (as suggested by others) but still no joy.
It has also been suggested it could be a fly wheel sensor of even air in the fuel lines?
Would be grateful of any help or advise from anyone who has had simular problems.
Many Thanks |

P0181 Fuel Temperature Sensor A Circuit Performance
I think this fault is fairly self evident - it does require attention but will not cause it to fail to start.
P0263 Cylinder 1 Contribution/Balance Fault
P0266 Cylinder 2 Contribution/Balance Fault
P0272 Cylinder 4 Contribution/Balance Fault
Faulty crank sensor is the most likely issue - which brings me onto...
P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range
These will cause it issue in starting.
P1199 Fuel level Input circuit low
This is an unusual fault (rarely seen) and related to the output from the fuel sender in the tank (anti scavenge system). |

| Well I wont go so far as to say that without seeing the vehicle for myself but the data does at this stage seem to suggest that. |

Fitted a new Crankshaft sensor today but the car still won't start.
When you hand pump the primer, air can be seen traveling through the Fuel lines and the primer its self remains soft and dosen't build up any pressure, is this normal or does it suggest an air leak some where?
Also Since we've changed the fuel fillter a "economy mode active" message has appeared?
Many thanks |

Economy mode is related to the battery voltage dropping below a critical level and should not be effecting the starting of the vehicle.
I would like to see the faults read again to see what is now present.
I assume from the fact you have a bleed bulb that you have a Siemens fuel system. Could you PM me your VIN so I can confirm?
Who are you local dealers? |

| Hence the request - it may/may not have a transfer pump in the tank. |

Can't seem to post a PM
I'm 99% certain it's a seimens fuel system with no pump in the Tank. I presume air in the fuel lines won't be helping my situation?
Is ok to post my Vin Number this way?
My local Dealer is John Grose in Ipswich
Many thanks |
