Only had the car for 3 weeks and the cambelt broke on xmas eve, 25 miles from home, three children my wife and mum in the car, didn't get home until 11.45pm.
Anyway i have been told i'm unlikely to see it back in January. it's an 05 only just turned 49000 miles.
I will keep you up to date as soon as i hear anything.

I managed to get my car to 67000miles.... luckily. I found Autotechniks in Edinburgh, also known as The C8 centre, and got a very competative price to do the timing belt and thank god. Mr Gavin Grey showed me the original and it was on the verge of snapping. Not what I thought as I had expected at least another 20,000 miles as recommended by Peugeot. Also got some free advice that helped.
I'd recommend this guy to any Peugeot or Citroen owner. Hey..Gavin.............your the man. |

| I was recommended 50k. Anyway, at 76k you're probably running on borrowed time. So get it done ASAP! |

05 2.2HDi cam belt went at 71,000 last year (2011) and required a new engine.
Fortunately the car had been regularly main dealer serviced and had only just had a service done with the recommendation NOT to change the cam belt. The engine was replaced by Peugeot "good faith" otherwise £8k bill !!!! Since engine was out we were recommended to change other items not covered by warranty eg clutch £1.8k.
The pulley for the cam belt which I understand corrodes and sometimes is linked to cam belt failure was replaced only 2 years earlier.
Since then "diesel additive at min" sign has come up despite having the additive fully replaced at 65k service (~£120) so suspect additive was lost during the engine change - fuel filler sensor and other "normal 807" items replaced already.
So my recommendation is either change belt at 50k or get main dealer service with any recommendations written on the service sheet or put £10k in a saver account ready.
Ps the total time we had no car was about 10 weeks. |
