Thanks for help .I think the battery was not charged fully which might  be the reason but it did not happened with other cars.
Today I called the AA man for his opinion who was really helpfull. After the routine checks He diagnosed the immobiliser problem .The key fob was functioning good but the main immobiliser system needs to be sorted for  . He advised  to go to the main dealer. He also added that these cars are one of the few cars where we cant help in similar situation.
Now the  car is in the hands of peugeot  main dealer   and i am waiting for the outcome. They will charge  £51 for diagnostics.what happens next ?

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem as you describe above, right down to me replacing the head gasket. Except that I haven't even managed to get it started at all.

What was the outcome and how did you get it fixed?

Thanks,

dumbrill

Hi there

Your problem would seem to be that in disconnecting / power loss of the battery, the communication between your engine ecu and your bsi unit has failed! ( very common fault/ problem with the 406 when a battery is disconnected!) if this immobiliser light is on all the time then it sounds like you will need to get some specialist diagnosis equip which along with your identity / transponder code ( blue credit card sized card with 4 charecters on it or a silver scratch card like coating) and reprogramme the 2 units to communicate with each other! the windows and elec failures are probably due to the vehicle entering economy mode!

Dealer can do this and it should not be to expensive if its just programming

You will need your access code regardless and if you do not have this then you may have to pay for it ( dealer again)

A specialist diagnosis chap/ or chapess may have the correct equipment to do the job!! just ask them if they can program keys!!

Good Luck
