What a saga!!! -

I brought this 807 2.l HDI (04) 6 months ago second hand off a lease agreement.  It has 40k on the clock and is in neat condition.

It started with a funny smoke like smell in the cabin.. accentuated if the engine is running and the car is stationery and if vent system is blowing.. Recycle the air or turn it off stops for the most part the smell - Took it to a exhaust place and the whole system was perfect!! Took it to the next place - as wife and Family  feel like we are getting gassed in the car.

The chap did the diagnostic on it and came back with the low level on the exhaust treatment system - we topped up the level with a couple of pints of very expensive fluid and hey presto!!!.. nothing changed just 100 lighter. Chap suggested that there was evidence of black deposits around injectors - so booked it in with an 'injector removal specialist' - who said he had seen one like this last week with the same symptom

As you are aware the injector change is a small job.. if you could get to them!! 80 to change them 700 odd to take the engine out and put it back!! - your know what.. still the same smell in the cab as before

Changed the pollen filter 15 - still the same smell

I am loosing my cool - can anyone shed any light on this at all?? Embarassed

I think you mean diesel particulate fluid and I assume 2 - 3 litres.

An injector change is far from a small job actually.

Is the smell of gas or fuel?

What do the base of the injectors now look like?

Has the particulate filter ever been off?

How many miles has it done?
The flexible steel braid pipe to the particulate filter are notorious for leaking also.

:

Had this problem with my 04 407 1.6 hdi ,I was also getting a strong gasie smell in the cabin and in the engine bay... Rolling Eyes
There was that black carbon deposit around one of the injectors..This was compression leaking past the injector seals and into the
engine bay inturn into the cabin.
The black carbon was cleaned off totally.. removed the injector... replaced all seals.. refitted and its fine since.
The main seal that was leaking was a copper washer. The seal kits are cheap enough but there was alot of cleaning to be done before
the injector was removed.. Smile
That was my problem but as James says there could be other causes as he stated.... Smile

I have a similar problem but it is not an exhaust smell but more a diesel smell.

I had a similar problem with smells - 1st very like natural gas which turned out to be the auto gear box being full of filingsand eventually resulting in a total gear box failure,  and 2nd a smell coming through the ventilation rather like water on hot metal or pipe.  I have had the aircon/heater controller changed twice under warranty and I am convinced that this smell something to do with it.

Hi, just bought an 807 and also have a smell of diesel/exhaust fumes when stationary.  Any changes to yours?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi...I have a Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI (2008) and like you that have posted, in the past three months the same smell and been creeping into my car and getting worse. After much research and inspection of the turbo and exhaust system as recommended by previous posts, i finally located the problem.
I removed the top press on cover over the injectors, smelling around the engine the exact exhaust smell that i was getting in the car was hovering around the top of the injectors. Along with a good visual inspection i noted that injector number 3 was soaking wet at the base of the head...and believe it or not the retention bolts were finger tight. Supprising that the injector wasn't hissing under compression etc....
I removed the injector and it was heavily built up with carbon....complete clean, three new seals for that pot costing 11 from peugeot and rebuild resolved the problem.
Note that i checked the rest of the injectors to find 1 and 4 retentions bolts were also loose, take note of the suttle things also...my wife was commenting on the fuel consumption getting worse...we are now getting nearer to 65mpg rather that 45mpg.
Also just some advice....i was told that removal of the injectors needed reprogramming...i questioned that having removed many injectors over the years and never needed to do that. Peugeot state that so long as the injectors go back into the head in the same order s they came out, then there is not need to have the ecu reporgrammed.
I hope this helps...kind regards....Mark
