ok my mother lent my car and when i got it back i noticed a problem.

when pushing down on the clutch pedal after the slack there is a slight grinding noise along with a vibration , the car changes gear as normal and nothing wrong with the gearbox just every time i go to change gear or push the clutch pedal in i get this noise and vibration, normal feel to the pedal otherwise.

car is a 52 plate 307 rapier 90 and 88,000 miles.

any ideas along with rough guides as to how much the repairs could cost??

Possibly the release bearing is on its way out, about a 3 1/2 to 4 hour job to remove and refit gearbox.

Unfortunately IF its the release bearing it wont fix itself, eventully you will loose drive yes and it will probably take out the clutch at the same time.

HI
if it's the release bearing I would replace the complete clutch at the same time. If you are going to pay a garage for 3.5 hours labour an extra 30 minutes the pressure and fiction plates could also be change. I know this is more expence but if the clutch goes later it's another 4 hours labour.
hope this helps

it has turned into more of a squeek now rather than a vibration (like a fan belt slipping sort of squeek but not that loud), constantly rather than just changing gears, and a slight grinding noise there too, finally a burning smell coming through into the interior...would this still resemble a release bearing failing or the dreaded flywheel falling to bits?

if its a problem with the clutch i will change it whilst its in for repair, is there anyone here that could do the job or recommend anyone who would be able to carry out the work cheaper than Peugeot? I am in the leeds area.

i will pass thanks haha, spoke to my old man he knows a guy who will look at it for me, think he only charges 20 quid an hour labour so thats all good and well. Going to get the parts myself once he confirms whats gone on it.

Im thinking its the DMF now given the symptoms and if thats the case ive seen a replacement one from an 05 307 hdi on ebay for 50 quid, it says its in good working order, will it fit ok?

Also if the clutch is to be replaced which components will i need? will the clutch pressure plate, the drive plate and thrust bearing be enough?

The car is on the drive now im afraid to drive it incase it goes completely and does more damage,

Reason im being a cheap arse here is that i plan to sell the car soon anyways and go for a newer model, probably will be another 307 but one with more power and less mileage, love these cars strangely enough even with their problems haha
