Had my 308 1.6 Verve for four weeks and managed to get 975 miles on the clock.......yesterday.....the cambelt snapped.
Recovered by the AA under warranty...... had a call today and they tell me they are replacing the engine..... anyone else heard of the problem or is it unique to my car. Also where do I stand on this...... is it acceptable to have a new engine put in a 4 week old car?? |

Is this a new car? Is that a total of 975 miles, or 975 that you've driven on top of a previous mileage?
Either way, it's very embarrassing for Peugeot if a cambelt has snapped at such a low mileage. Sounds like a manufacturing fault, either in the engine or the belt. My cambelt on my 306 was replaced at 96,000 miles, as required in the service schedule, so there's an expectation that belts should last this long.
Given the fact that many modern engines are interference engines where the piston at the top of its travel will hit the valves at the bottom of their travel if the timing goes wrong, a new engine is probably the only remedy. The pistons probably have nice valve-size holes punched in the top and the valve stems are probably bent. I hope the replacement is fully covered by your warranty! |

| It was a new car..... they replaced the engine..... they didnt exactly push the boat out..... they gave me a 107 to drive round in for the first week+ and on the second week I asked for something bigger as I was going on holiday...they replaced it with a Nissan Note. When my car was ready for collection they said they had tested it and tested it.... adding another 100+ miles on the clock and using my petrol. I wanted the dealer who I bought it from doing the repairs but it was done by the nearest Peugeot to where the car broke down.... so I had to travel 80 miles there and back each time I went..... Peugeot UK said there are no agreements between franchises.... which has me worried if I ever break down miles from home. So I was without my car for three weeks and all I got was extra miles on the clock, the expense of travelling and filling my own car up when they gave it back. |

| hand it back not fit for purpose, ask for full refund and get a different make. contact the ombudsmun and complain like crazy if on finance contact them and explain your case. plus your new engine will not match the engine numbers on the log book, can depreciate the car even more and may prove harder to sell later on. |
