Hi All,

I have joined this forum because I have suffered various issues with my 807 HDi 2.2 diesel since I bought it new in 2003. I hope this little discovery helps someone out.

Setting aside all the other problems and just focusing on the anti pollution fault: I have had the catalytic convertor sensor, solenoids, inlet flaps and other components replaced at substantial cost over a two year period. The car has had various over night stays in the dealersip on diagnostics with the conclusion from Peugeot that the Turbo needed to be replaced, obviously this started shortly after the warranty expired with only 38,000 miles on the clock. 20,000 miles later the position is now this, one very long discussion later with Peugeot the Turbo has still not been changed.

I have discovered the following: After the Anti Pollution light comes on and the car drops into limp mode, stopping the car and opening the fuel tank cap for a few seconds restores the car to normal operation mode, the warning light stays on but the car drives as normal. All of which suggests there is a problem with air intake into the tank which causes the engine to believe there is a fault. I can't be bothered taking the car to the dealership again now that I have a fix, granted it's an irritation but it's much safer that driving in limp mode.

I have driven hundredsof miles when the car is in limp mode and found myself in very dangerous positions when I needed to accelerate but could not due to this safety mechanism.

hi,,,so the fix you have,does it only work if fuel cap opened??
or simply,stopping,locking and unlocking and setting off again work???

ideally we could do with some data or codes to assist.

Hi Toddy

No need to leave the cap off. I just unlock it, remove it for a few seconds then lock it up again and drive off with power restored.

I initially thought the problem was the fuel as I put BP ultimate in it by accident once (had the nozzle in the tank before I noticed the price) and although it was only a few gallons it restored the power. This worked on three occssions even with 3/4 of a tank of regular diesel onboard. It was three weeks ago when i put Ultimate fuel in when the fault was not displaying to avoid it coming on and then had the fault displayed after 20 miles that I concluded the fix related to the action of opening and closing the tank rather than the fuel. It happened on that occassion and again for the third time on Friday last week.

When I had a Peugeot mechanic friend plug his laptop into the interface he told me the code related to a pressure fault on the turbo and he advised me to change the solenoids. But that didn't resolve it.

hi,,the first thing i would look at on your car is the inlet swirl capsule detached from its arm.

look at the gearbox side of your cylider head,,you should see a small lever type arm,attached to that should be a black rod,i suspect its become detached.
i will try pm you a pic to make it easier to understand.
think this puts in fault code po238,,so can get overlooked for turbo,got to be worth a look.

Hi Toddy,

I had a look but can't see the arm. I believe there was an arm detached when Peugeot were looking into the problem and I had a technician explain to me that there may have been a possibility that a butterfly valve inside the air intake have become stuck causing this arm to become detached. I believe they replace the butterfly and re-attached the arm charging me the bulk of £200 for the privilege.

If you can send phot I'll check and let you know.

Thanks for the schematic. I can't find the paper work from Peugeot but I suspect you are right and they fitted a new capsule about a year ago. However I can confirm (althought I can't see it) the arm is firmly attached to the capsule and does not apper to be loose on either end. When I move the arm I can hear suction like sounds.

My local garage (none dealer) did the last service on the car and I know the guys quite well as they look after some fleet vehicles for me so I'll ask then to connect their diags and let me know the code for you.
