Hi,

I hope that someone can help.

My 2.0 XSi has had the airbag light flickering on and off for a while, but for the last 4 months it has been on solid, except for the odd day when it doesn't come on when I start up (though it usually comes back on half way through the journey though!).

Myself (6ft) and my girlfriend (5ft 4) both drive the car, so the car moves forwards and backwards a fair bit, as does the underseat draw.

I had diagnostics run by my autoelectrician and the reading was "drivers module trigger level 2, Open circuit" . So we replaced the Comm unit with a new Valeo part from GSF and the fault remained. We put it through the backdoor at Peugeot and they told me that the fault remained with the Comm unit, but having tested the old unit on another car I know that the old unit was perfectly OK too.

So, if it isn't the Comm unit, what could it be?

The connectors under the seat all LOOK good and surely they would give a very different fault code?

I can see from the history of the car that it has had about 5 Comm units and noen of them seem to have sorted things.

PLEASE, can someone give me some realistic suggestions / benefit of their experience.

Could it be the airbag itself?

Thanks for any assistance

Why did you replace the COMM2000? I wouldn't be thinking its directly related.

I'd have to check the wiring under the seat and with the long term issues I'd be tempted to just solder them up.

Is the airbag module (ECU) configured correctly?
Is there any crash data in it?

hi,to be fair i normally see that fault description for the comms.
if you have access to diag eqt, perhaps you could disconnect each seat and see what fault you get??
also poss check ecu data.

Well as Toddy states , that fault description is related to comm connection / circuit , could you have a wiring issue or issue with the connector that plugs into the comm, maybe trace the wires back a bit and check they are in good condition and not trapped against something , I think if you disconnect the seat plugs you will get a different fault description.

Canyon rightly mentions the air bag ecu and having a look at that for info but  seing as the fault has progerssivley got worse then its probably a simple fix when finnally found!! and also it wont take long to join up the wires beneath the seat!!

The airbag module ideally needs live data taken.
Also, if needs be the on board eeprom should be downloaded.  This may be corrupt and need fixing.

My best suggestion is to find an airbag expert Smile

Don't suppose any of you chaps are ever in Devon? I would gladly give you my cash to try and sort it.
Or do you know anyone good down here, you can get a referral 'drink' from?
I am getting very frustrated and am coming to the conclusion that my current chap may not be up to the task.
With the various wires under the seat (where I think the problem lies) am I better having them wired solid, or putting new plugs on?

The actual code his diagnostic kit read was 'P0802'

Even as a non-expert my logic tells me it is break somewhere that is making agood ocnnection from time to time, but I don't want to think about a break in the loom behind the dash or worse......

Thanks so much for your time already chaps.

This is actually from a conversation I had some time back - and the chap mailed me this.

This code is usually down to one of three things.

(A) Poor connection at the two pin blue or brown connector on the back of the Comms 2000.
(B) Poor connection at the two pin blue or green connector on the back of the drivers (steering wheel) module.
(C) Intermittent break in the rotary connection built into the Comms 2000.

I think Module 2 are the blue connectors whilst module 1 are the green and brown connectors.

The majority of the time I find one of the connectors have come out of the airbag module itself.

Try checking the connections first and if thats not it then a Comms 2000 (lights / wiper stalk) may be required.

I take it your guy has checked all the connections to the comm ?? cant be the comm cause you ve replaced it unless it sbeen damaged whilst fitting?? im up the road a bit in whiltshire so if your thinking of coming up that way give us a shout!!

failing that maybe a trip to the local dealer may save you alot of messing about , just explain situation and alow them an hours labour to investigate to keep cap on cost! they should find the issue if they are worth their salts and then you can take that info elsewhere to fix it at a cheaper rate?? just an idea

Oh, and replying to your questions, the Valeo replacement Comm2000 unit was brand new, and given that the car has had three units already I have ruled that out.

I did ask my chap last time to check the connectors to the airbag and he seemed to think that all of the connections were good, but you can't always tell - sometimes they feel good when they aren't.

I definitely need somone who is happy to spend a little time exploring rather than just telling me I need another comm unit!
