Hi Guys,

New to the site I found it today when a problem has occured with my 308 and I dont believe I should be paying for the fault. I purchased the car 5 months ago and it had done 11,000 miles with one owner. 5 months later and 7,000 miles later we noticed a problem with the clutch the other day when in traffic. There was a burning smell and a juddering effect.

We booked it straight in with Peugeot as for the past 5 months there have been no problems, expecting if something was wrong we would be covered by the warranty.

They took it for a drive and said the clutch has a slight problem but it doesn't seem too bad, we need to strip the car to find out exactly whats wrong, but once we do this you commit to the repair, worst case sceniro £699 for a whole new clutch kit.

We said go ahead, believing there must be a fault that would be covered by the warranty. While waiting to be collected from the garage I was on my phone googling about the problem. Alot of people were mentioning about the flywheel, so I went to the desk and asked for a quote for this too to prepare myself just incase. The lady said no need, I very much doubt there will be a problem with that so theres no point giving you a price. I said ok, ill wait for your phone call and left.

5 hours later I received a phone call from her ''you are not going to like me very much, the clutch does need replacing and so does the fly wheel''. GRAND TOTAL £1200!!!!!!

A 57 reg car, 18,000 miles and not covered by the warranty as its a wear and tear item!!! Is it just me or is this not right? Surely the parts cant be that poor a quality to not cope with 18,000 miles of wear. And can I add driven well for my 7,000 miles!

Can anyone give me any advice on what to do? As I'm sure with everyone else we dont have £1200 lying around to pay this, Christmas is in 9 weeks and our little girl is due in 6 weeks!

This cannot be acceptable can it?!?

Thanks!

hi,,no,don't accept it.
the fly wheel is definitely warranty, clutch i am sure is 20,000miles,however you may be out on the 2yrs(i think),has the car been dealer maintained??
did you buy it from a dealer?
get straight on the phone to peugeot uk customer care, get a case number and argue your case.
do not pay or collect tho at this time, once you have a case number then go back to dealer how will then be able to phone and discuss the claim.
you may not get it all,but i'm sure you will get a very good, goodwill.

Hi Toddy,

Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions -
The car was first registered in December 2007.
We purchased the car from Peugeot in May
All servicing is up to date and taken place at the same Peugeot garage.

I will get on the phone to them first thing in the morning.

Thanks x

My father in law has just experienced the same type of problem with his 308, with only 6,200 miles on the clock. Peugeot have refused any claim under the warranty scheme. Please let me know how you got on with customer services on this one

Hi,

After all the stress of it all they agreed to do it under warranty Smile thank goodness! But i'm just waiting for it to go again! When I called customer care the guy said clutches are covered up to 20,000 miles and the flywheel as they are connected (thanks Toddy for saying to call them!) I can find the name of the guy I spoke to Mike S as he was very helpful!

Also trading standards say a car should fulfil resonable expectations, I dont think in anyones eyes 6,200 or 18,000 miles for a clutch to go is reasonable!

Thanks,
Tess
