Offered to do this for my farther-in-law thinking it shouldn't be that difficult Smile

Can get three of the bolts holding the alternator out - but the fourth almost touching the oil filter.

I'm guessing with a modified allen key it will be possible to get this last bolt out.

Am I heading in the right direction and what size allen key should I use?

Thanks for any help with this.

Hi

you dont need to remove that one!! lol

just release the 6 mm allen screw on the front of the casting it acts like a clamp , with this loosened the alt will slide out! no need to remove gold coloured fixing!!

Spot on thank you.

I did have my suspicions about that but it's not until the alternator is removed can you actually see anything!

Very Happy   Did you manage to fix the alternator?
I heard they suggest removing the front side panel to gain access.   Makes you wonder what world the designers live in.

Ps....Hope your hands have recovered!  xx

Did eventually......

I didn't remove the side panel or jack the wheel up - guess it would have been slightly easier if I had but most of it was done by touch anyway and the extra space wouldn't have helped me much..

Getting the fan belt back on was 'interesting'  I could just about lie under the car and get a socket on it to wind it back on with someone helping at the top to keep it in place.

You think thats a tight space to work in , you should see a 2.0 136 in a 307 or 407 for that matter!!

anything on the top or round the back of the engine is a nightmare

Give me a 307 alt anyday!!
