I have a 307cc 06 plate with only 15k on the clock. Occasionally the ESP/ABS light illuminates and a message is shown in the centre display - ABS/ESP fault. Sad  It can go a few hundred miles before coming back on. If you key off the ignition off it clears it. Ive checked the rear sensor gapping and they have a 1/2mm gap so all looks well. Ive cleaned the surface that the sensor picks up on of crud and the face of the sensor.

Any ideas on what this could be? Should I start with changing the rear sensors?

Does anyone know how long the fault is stored in the ECU? I called the main dealer who stated that once I had keyed the ignition off the fault is cleared in the ECU which means that if the diagnostics kit was used it would not pick up the fault.

Because this issue is so random its difficult to take it for a diagnostic check because if you key off the fault is cleared or so the dealer says!

I would be grateful of any help with this!

Rich. 07926751588.

might be a brake light switch problem.

Thanks for your guidance. Do you know how easy they are to change? Also do you know how long the fault code would be stored for in the ECU?

Rich.

Hi There,
I had the same problem.
Replaced the Brake light switch, located inside the passenger well where the brake master cylinder is situated, simple 45 degree turn anti clockwise by hand to remove...

End of frustration.

Cheers
The new 307boy
