Hi - I topped up my oil Sunday, checked brake fluid and topped up coolant. Car started fine.
Monday morning (very cold) it turned over a bit, but wouldnt fire. After a couple of attempts the girlfriend gave up. In the evening I saw the display showing date 01-01-00 and time 00.00. Warning message of "airbag deactivated" came up and no joy at starting. Lights were fine, no radio tho. Tried to jump it but no joy. It appeared not to be taking any charge from the booster car, but still wouldn't start so I presumed battery was OK, the starter was turning slowly - but just not firing the engine. Oil level 'circles' were still at minimum.
I checked the oil (paranoia) and I had overfilled but managed to remove a super tight sump drain plug and put the level to 3/4 the way to max.
It appeared to be having remote key unlock / lock problems as it was very sluggish unlocking.
Yesterday I charged the battery for about 3 hours (was pretty low) and refitted following the 3 minute rule as far as I could (difficult when you can't open the windows as their electric and you have a dead beattery !). But still no joy at starting. Oil leevel 'circles' were at max.
I  fully charged the battery over last night and have refitted today. When the ignition is turned on the airbag warning has gone, but the multifunction display says economy mode active - this is on a 24 hour charged battery mind. The engine turned over with a lot more power, but didnt fire. After several attempts the battery was starting to complain, and then after about 5 goes at starting the display 'beeped' twice. I don't know what this means. I think the dash battery was showing on its own after I had finished giving starting a go - so presumably bad battery - but to go from fully charged to dead in 5 or 6 goes at starting !?!
I have checked all fuses and they are OK. I have tried to re-synch the key fob also, but this is locking / unlocking doors OK. Girlfried has also put a new plastic key fob cover (replacement) on Tuesday morning - not sure if important...

Not sure where to find a fuel primer as other posts suggest. Could it be the imobiliser or levels too high?
Now worried about the BCI and the expense at this time of year.....but could this be a simple key code problem?

Relly feel like banging my head on walls at the moment... Crying or Very sad

Pelase help!

These engines need a good battery, especially when cold, its best to follow the bsi reset to the letter, since you can't operate the window its better that someone is in the car to stop the door being opened, give it a bit longer than 3 mins, you should hear a click as the system shuts down.

Hi

sounds like somewhere down the line you have caused an issue within the BSi

these car s dont like jumps if battery is knackered.

what system is yours ? bosch or siemens ( siemens has a hand prime pump by fuel filter housing)

if battery is failing after this amount of turning then battery or starter is at fault, does starter turn over fast when battery is charged and if not does it sound rough??

it sounds to me like you need diag with specilist eqp so an attemp can be made to re programme the vehicles bsi

ive had it before where they can be  reprogrammed after this sort of issue. also you will need trans / access code from pug unless you have.

where abouts are you??

Econ mode will stay present until it succesfully starts.

The beep was just due to a very flat battery

As kris says, its very very likely to be a BSI issue and you will need the codes (or the person doing the work).

FIXED - WOOHOO.

Fully recharged battery, and shouted big time at the girlfriend. She hadn't put the imobiliser chip in the new key fob.
Switched it in (thank god she hadn't thrown the old fob away), WD40'd the wiring area, starter etc, put battery in. Safely let the bsi go soft off and disconnected battery. Waited and then connected battery again. headlights on, key fob resynch, started up!

Just in time for the snow....

Thanks for all the help guys - whenever you're down Dartford way - gimme a post and I'll buy you a beer.
