Hi,

New to the forum and hoping someone can shed some light on this matter.

I am trying to replace the factory fitted door speakers in my factory standard 1989 E reg Peugeot 405 GR. The problem I have encounted is the wiring is 3 wire and all speakers are suppliued as 2 wire +and-.

The 3 wire harness going to the speaker is labelled as such 1,2 and AMP (it actually reads A-MP) and are coloured and connected as such:

blue wire labelled "1" goes into one leg of a capacitor.
grey wire labelled "2" goes into the other leg of the capacitor and also onto the speaker "dome/woofer"
black wire labelled "A-MP" also goes to the speaker "dome/woofer".

From this I assume "2" and "A-MP" are the - and + for the speaker as these are connected to the speaker woofer (but I am unsure of the polarity), but what is the purpose of wire "1"?

Could it be something to do with the speaker being component wired where the tweeter is seperate and this lone capacitor is part of a basic "crossover" found in component speakers? I know that their is a tweeter housing in the dash but on opening there is no sign of tweeter or wire. ( I know the car speaker system has never been touched since leaving the factory back in '88 as my Dad bought it new and he has never had the speakers replaced or checked). So could it be something to do with a wiring harness being used for component speaker wiring when a tweeter is installed on higher spec 405's.

I have done numerous searches on the internet regarding speakers wired with 3 wires etc but have found nothing.

The rear speakers in the parcel shelf are (thankfully) standard 2 wire setup.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Martin
