Hi there,
wondering if any could please advise me on this subject please.
Recently picked up a problem with rattling in the rear of my 406 HDI over bumps etc on road.
Sounds almost as though I have golf balls rattling about in the boot.
It doesn't need to me major bumps on road to cause it.
I have checked out every thing in the boot including the spare wheel.
Also I have checked the rear seats.
I folded the rear seats down and the noise sounded louder but pretty much to be expected I suppose.
I've visually checked the rear coils/bushes and ball joints and all seems fine.
I did replace both rear drop links about 7 months ago so assuming it will not be these again.
Any ideas please?
Any good tips on checking ball joints at all?
Any feedback on this one greatly appreciated indeed

Exhaust rattling on the heat shield? Feel the bottom of the coil springs as one of those may have broken.

Hi
check the rear callipers are intact and that the bolt hasnt come out the bottom or top causing the calliper to bounce off the inside of the rim!!
other than that jack up rear susp and check for play
rear track arms knock usually apparent when pulling slowly over a bump , rear hub bushes knock to but a duller sound and to check you will / should need to compress rear susp on rear lower arm.
as Tyler says check coils and or heat shield. i would also look at work already carried out!!
apart from that lot ive had one that was very difficult to detect and that turned out to be rear shock absorber , knocking over bumps
