Hello all i was wondering if you can help me. My sister had a peugeot 206 1.9 diesel and she asked me to go in her car today to have a listen to some knocking coming from the back end. It appears that the noise is coming from the nearside rear wheel and starts knocking when you get to 40-50 mph or when you are slowing down. You can feel the back end banging hard when it does it. I said i would jack it up and have a look as soon as this snow has cleared but i was wondering whether anybody knows what the problem is on here. I,ve read that it could be the back axel but sureley i can just replace some bushes on some linkages?

hi,,i suspect its the rear arm bearings.
look for signs of excess camber angle and possible tyre rubbing on inner arch.
i would not want to do one diy!!
it's easir to check for play with the shocker unbolted.
check also the bushes on the rear axle arms.

How hard is it to replace, i see that people buy the whole rear axel which can be quite expensive. Is it possible to take off and then take them to a garage to get pressed in?

hi,,its the removal of the arm that is the hard part not the bearing replacment.
also you may find the axle beam is to badly pitted to accept the bearings anyway.
if you are doing this on the drive i would prob just replace the whole thing.

Yeah im doing it on the drive, i think im going to look for a whole axel as its just a case of undoing the 4 bolts then reconnecting the brake pipes etc. Gonna ring around local scrapyards tomorrow to see how cheap i can get one. But im just worried that a few 1000 miles and the same could happen again. Also are the axles all the same apart from the drum and disc versions? Its a 1.9 diesel

Also one more question. Do you know if any citroen axles are the same as the 206 ones?

I am having sort of the same problem just now, Only its my axle that is away.
Got 1 from a scrappy and its ready to fit, only problem is trying to get the brake pipes off in one piece.

You're best bet would be to get an axle off another 206, but watch as the sport model is a little bigger.
