The A/C heater fan on my 1998 406 sedan 2.0 is on full blast for as long as the ignition switch is on. I've read former posts about the problem and how to fix it, but I need some clarification. First, there two resistors: (a) one is square shaped and is clipped behind the glovebox, outside the fan/motor housing and (b) the other is wing shaped and is screwed in under the drum fan within the fan housing--this is sometimes called the resistor partner when searching for it on the Internet. I had trouble with the old resistor partner and sort of rebuilt it. It worked fine for about two days, then the fan went full blast all the time as described above. Thinking the resistor partner was faulty, I bought a new one. The new one is for a citroen et.al., they said. I installed it, but the fan doesn't come on at all now, no clicking sounds--nothing. Note that when I connect back up the old one, I get the same full blast fan. My question is are these resistor partners so dedicated as to not work on any other car models? The new resistor partner I am trying to use looks exactly the same and mounts the same as the old one; the only difference is the two transistors have a slightly higher reference number printed on them.
The other question I have is about which resistor to replace: the square one or the wing shaped one. Maybe it's the square shaped one that needs replacing. Any thoughts? |
