I have a 307SW that has a strange overheating problem.

Staring from cold the car will run for around 5km, showing normal temperature as the engine heats up.  Then the heat gage will rise to the red section, the red “STOP” warning signal flashed on the instrument panel and the computer display will show an “STOP, Engine too hot...” warning.  This normally happens if you stop or driving slow in traffic.
If you ignore this, or rev the motor up the warnings go away and the temperature gage return to normal.
After this happened once it normally do not happen again, even if you stop and shut the motor off for a while – as long as it does not cool down completely.

I have had the car to my dealer that promptly upgraded the software and told me it was fixed.  Well, at least I’m able to rule out software now that it react the same way....

Any advice?

Hi

you dont say which engine you have ?? ill go on a 2.0 HDI  ,

problem is very likely to be your coolant temp sender!! it is a green coloured sensor this screws into a water jacket / union just behind the thermostat!!

when faulty they have symptoms just as you describe!!

easy to replace and very cheap in uk / about 10 pounds!!

Thanks Crow.
It is the 2.0 Petrol (cannot find any other engine designation) and roughly what I suspected to be wrong.   I’ll have a look for a replacement part check it solves the problem.
