Hi All,

Feel rude to just join and post a problem without introducing myself. So first off, my names Tom, I live in Strood, Kent, and my girlfriend owns a little green P reg Peugeot 106 Diesel 1.5 (done 150k according to the counter).

We have had it for a couple of months (bought it off my Dad) and been using it regularly every day.
It has been running well, had its MOT this morning and passed on emissions etc.

Yesterday evening when driving to my GF's home from my house, about 20 minutes into the journey going up a hill it stalls, we start again, stalls, about 4 or 5 times.
Eventually wont start at all (does crank over), an after 6 or so goes at starting, smoke and a electrical smell starts to emerge from the engine bay.

Battery is okay, tried knocking it off and reconnecting, doesn't help.

Starter is firing.

Fuel in tank (we undid the filter slightly and fuel came out).
Now I will mention this only to be thorough, but our fuel gauge is broken, but we put in 20 (16 litres) last week and have only done 52 miles on it so we really do not believe it to have run out of fuel even going up a hill (should get at least double that even in worst case scenarios and car had driven the same hill the night before). Just in case though we put another 5 litres worth in using a Jerry can, still not starting after a good 50 goes or so.

Fuel stop solenoid - when my Dad checked it with the ignition on, he said he was getting current through the positive wire but didn't seem to be getting current through the negative wire (although admittedly that may be my lack of understanding with car electrics so take that with a pinch of salt!) Smile

We tried using cold start on the air intake and starting it, it was getting a bit closer to starting but no joy.

We have checked both fuse boxes in the engine bay.

Glow plugs had been changed before, not recently but also not that long ago, so don't believe it to be these.

Fuel seems to be passing though the manual fuel pump and doesn't seem to have air in the system (seems quite firm when you squeeze it).

Car wont start even after being left all night.

I am thinking that the MOT probably pushed it over the edge when they did the emissions test as they have to rev the nuts off of it (I live next door to MOT station so car didn't go far afterwards).

I am also thinking either the fuel injector pump has failed or the timing belt has slipped due to wear/age and as such it is now out of time? (Which unfortunately would be too difficult for us to do ourselves and too much to pay someone else to do it).

Again, I do apologise for joining and asking straight away for help (I am a club member on another non Peugeot forum for my own vehicle and see it a lot) but we have a VERY limited budget and would really appreciate some fellow owners advice/opinions (and we have grown quite attached to our little Peugeot and don't want to see her down the scrappers :'( ).

Many thanks for your time,

tom,

Fixed it!
It was the lead going to the fuel stop solenoid, it had degraded, rewired it and all okay.
