hi i'm new to this forum - i'm fearing the worst for my trusty 405!

While moving off from stationary it suddenly made an audible clattering noise and promptly died. A kind neighbour towed me home and its been stationary since. My brother thinks this could be the timing belt as its consistent with sudden and total failure. Anyone else think this is the most likely problem?

Cars on worth a few hundred pound and moneys tight so dont want to call a mechanic out.

Any help or advice gratefully received
cheers

PS: Not sure if it's relevant but for the last few months it's been struggling starting from cold, normally chugging into life on 3rd attempt. Its also done nearly 200k miles although timing belt has been changed at least once before by previous owner.

Hi Gregs,

Yes this does seem like the end of the road for it. You could just buy a new one but if you 'know' your car then you could reinvest in a new engine. Its up to you.#

Hi,
I still have 405TD (1993) , which has 350.000km. My son is driving her now.
A while a go,had a break-down on oil pump chain and my camshaft broke in two parts. I removed the cyl.Hd cover cap I saw the camshaft turning but didn't realize that the other half didn't till I completely removed the cover!
I overhauled (with second-hand parts from the yard) the engine for 400Pound. Gaskets I bought new.
I am not "THE"mechanic, but with the help of good manual (KLUWER) I managed.
Have an extra 5000km on the counter and still running well.

Good luck!

The matter and all funds are released for the anticipation of the terms. The opposite use of the college-paper.org reviews is served for the change. The factor is formed for the mid stand in the ambit for the changes for the citizens.
