Just bought a 1997 405 estate........just realised what a state it is...my own fault for being impatient about gettin a new vehicle,anyway....................the radiator stays on as soon as the key is turned......central locking works on all but the o/s passenger door and boot and I've just checked the thermostat as I thought it was blocked, topped the water up afterwards, ran the car and now I find there are traces of mayo on the oil cap, obviously this means the head gasket is on its way out! I've done head gaskets on transits but this is a totally different kettle of fish. Has anyone got any ideas about how much its going to cost me to get it fixed, oh and the temperature gauge isn't working apart from that, it drives ok, doesn't consume too much petrol for a 1800 and its pretty comfortable.
So to recap, I believe head gasket is on way out, fan is on from turning the key, the motor lock for central lockin on boot is knackered and temp gauge isn't working. Help please  Sad

Razz if anyone has looked at this posting its ok, I've sorted out the fan problem, temp gauge problem, ignition barrel problem and I'll have the central locking issue sorted out very soon and it all took me in total about 20 minutes or so Smile oh and I took it for a drive today and there were no signs of mayo on the oil filler cap, so perhaps it was just a little condensation from where the car had been standing for a while and I would like to say hi from a newpugowner
